Democrat leaders criticized the GOP's new health care bill on Tuesday — which Sen. Chuck Schumer said has a "rotten core" — and laid out their terms for future negotiation.
"Abandon tax breaks for the wealthy, abandon cuts to medicaid, abandon repeal, and we can sit down and talk about improving health care," Schumer said. He also demanded that Republicans "abandon the closed-door, secret process they have used."
Other demands: Sen. Dick Durbin said he would be ready to sit down and negotiate with Republicans after they make a commitment to getting Americans more access to health care and more affordable insurance.
The other side: Sen. McConnell reminded the GOP today today that if the bill did not pass, they might be forced to work with Schumer.
