Democrat Beto O'Rourke will launch bid to take Ted Cruz's job

In 2012, Beto O'Rourke sprung an upset to make it into Congress, and now he has his eyes on Ted Cruz's Senate seat. The ex- punk rocker and staunch border wall opponent will announce his candidacy for the 2018 race Friday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Working against him: Dems will be working to defend 25 Senate seats and there will be limited capacity to funnel money to the longshot Texas race. That, and Texas hasn't had a Democratic senator since 1993.

That said... Cruz's approval ratings in Texas have taken a nosedive, and O'Rourke is considered a charismatic campaigner.
