China on Friday said it has reached a consensus on principles, related to the ongoing trade war with the U.S., according to CNBC.

Be smart: One or both sides have claimed progress before, only to later backpedal. It still doesn't sound like specific details have been hammered out.

All is calm on the trade war front, and investors are starting to believe that things may just get better.

What's happening: Goldman Sachs research analysts said in a note Sunday evening that they now believe "tariffs on imports from China have likely peaked" and are shifting their view, thanks to "recent developments and apparent progress in US-China negotiations."

UAW president to take leave of absence during corruption probe

United Auto Workers President Gary Jones will begin a leave of absence on Sunday in the midst of a federal corruption probe, CNBC reports.

The backdrop: Twelve people have been charged in the ongoing investigation as of this week, per CNBC. UAW and General Motors approved a four-year labor contract on Oct. 25, ending the first U.S. auto strike in 12 years. Five days later, the union reached a tentative agreement with Ford Motor Company, as well.

The threat of a U.S.-China "tech Cold War"

Ian Bremmer, president and founder of Eurasia Group, warned at the consulting firm's annual GZERO Summit in Tokyo Monday that a rising "tech Cold War" between China and the West poses "the greatest threat to globalization since the end of World War II."

What he's saying: "Beijing is building a separate system of Chinese technology — its own standards, infrastructure, and supply chains — to compete with the West," Bremmer said. "Make no mistake: This is the single most consequential geopolitical decision taken in the last three decades."
