Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava (D) announced on Friday that Binx, the cat who lived on the ninth floor of the building that collapsed in Surfside, was found near the site and was reunited with his family.

What they're saying: "I'm glad that this small miracle could bring some light into the lives of a hurting family today and provide a bright spot for our whole community in the midst of this terrible tragedy," Levine Cava said, per NPR.

State of play: The cat had been found near the rubble on Thursday and brought to a facility operated by the Kitty Campus, a cat rescue group in Miami.

  • "Today was one of the most amazing days," Gina Vlasek, the founder of the group, said on Facebook.

The big picture: The search and rescue mission transitioned to a recovery mission last Wednesday. Of the victims, at least 83 have been identified and 80 next-of-kin notifications have been made, Levine Cava said.

North Korea claims latest missile test new weapon launched from submarine

North Korean state media claims the country's military fired this missile on Tuesday. Photo: Korean Central News Agency

North Korean state media announced that a detected ballistic missile launch off its east coast on Tuesday was a newly developed weapon test-fired from a submarine.

Why it matters: Pyongyang's latest in a series of recent missile launches into the sea happened hours after U.S. officials emphasized their commitment to restart negotiations on North Korea's nuclear weapons program, which have stalled since talks broke down during the Trump administration, AP notes.
