Who we are

Axios is a news and technology company that provides consumers with content worthy of their time and attention. We offer a mix of original and smartly narrated coverage of the topics and trends that matter today—and those that will shape the next decade—through newsletters, a news stream, a mobile app, podcasts and our HBO show. Axios puts the trust of our consumers first, and we strive each day to make news consumption an easy, efficient, and worthy experience. We call this Smart Brevity.

Mission & Values

The mission of Axios is to get people smarter, faster with news and information that matters. Axios is engineered around a simple proposition: Deliver the cleanest, smartest, most efficient, and trustworthy experience for readers and customers alike. We aim to make the experience more substantive and meaningful—and therefore more valuable.

Company values:
  • Audience First: Deliver the cleanest, smartest, most efficient, and trust-worthy experience.
  • Excellence: Strive for excellence in everything you do and never sell BS to Axios' audience, customers, or each other.
  • Candor: Remain direct and candid in respectful but unambiguous ways with the audience and each other.

Employee values:

  • Axios First: Put colleagues and the cause above yourself. Humility wins
  • Excellence Always: Hunger to be the very best at what you do
  • Candor: Be candid, respectful and maintain a high degree of integrity
There is constant transparency from the founders and I always feel like my voice is heard. Things move fast and every day is different. Excellent leadership, investment into culture and inclusion from the top down.

Diversity & Inclusion

Why it matters: Axios considers a full spectrum of unique identities when we're building a diverse workforce. We survey staff bi-annually to ensure we are enhancing diversity in more than a dozen different categories including, but not limited to: ability, age, background, education, ethnicity, experience, gender identity, personality, race, religion, and sexual orientation. We strive each day to create an environment where Axions from all walks of life can bring their full selves to work and do their best work.

Go deeper on D&I at Axios: Axions across the company collectively rally around a shared mission to build a diverse community in which all feel welcomed, valued, and respected so that both individuals and the company may thrive.

Employee resource groups: An Employee Resource Group (ERG) is a company-sponsored group organized to establish a community of people who identify with a particular identity. An ERG benefits both the company and the individual by providing those individuals with a safe space to build community around identity and to advance the mission and values of the company.

Axios has four ERGs:

  • Axions of Color: for Axions who are people of Color (POC)
  • Quaxios: for LGBTQ+ Axions
  • Women Who Kick Axios: for Axions who identify as women
  • Allies: Axions dedicated to working to be better allies

It’s great knowing that what I do each day not only makes a difference for my teammates and the company, but it also makes a significant difference for our readers and customers.

Culture statement

The Axios Culture Statement

We are a company of top achievers, of people who strive to be the best at what they do, who take full ownership of their work and who love working together.

  • We believe in integrity, transparency and candor and we expect people to hold themselves and one another to the highest standards.
  • We’re innovators, we move quickly, and we are determined to succeed.
  • We’re curious and solutions-driven, never settling for the first or easiest option.
  • We treat people respectfully, fairly, and are firm believers in the power of building diverse and inclusive teams.
  • We believe our demise will come at the hands of mediocrity.

Measure what matters

Twice per year, we run both a custom demographics and an inclusion survey annually to power the company’s D&I efforts with data. These surveys help our leaders thoughtfully target areas of opportunity and success. Just four years in, we are proud to make aspects of these surveys public as the company holds itself accountable and helps push the tech and media industries forward. A snapshot of our survey results and progress are below:
