Queen Elizabeth II will meet President Biden and first lady Jill Biden at Windsor Castle on June 13, Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday.

Why it matters: Biden will become the 13th sitting U.S. president that the 95-year-old queen has met with, and the first since the death of her husband, Prince Philip, in April.

  • Queen Elizabeth met her first president, Harry Truman, in 1951, two years before ascending to the throne upon her father's death.
  • The only sitting president she did not meet with since that time was Lyndon B. Johnson.

The state of play: The meeting comes as Biden is set to attend the G7 summit in Cornwall, England later this month, as part of his first trip overseas. Biden is also scheduled to visit Brussels for a NATO summit and meetings with EU leaders, before his highly anticipated summit in Geneva with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 16.

Queen Elizabeth II and the royal family support the Black Lives Matter movement, a senior representative said in a television interview that will be broadcast Friday, AP reports.

The big picture: The remarks come after Prince Harry and Meghan in March accused the family of racism, saying unnamed relatives expressed concern about how dark their baby's skin would be.

Ohio Rep. Anthony Gonzalez (R) announced his retirement on Thursday, declining to run against a Trump-backed primary challenger in 2022.

Why it matters: Gonzalez has suffered politically since siding with House Democrats to impeach the 45th president after the Capitol riot.

Swing voters oppose Texas abortion law

All 10 swing voters in Axios’ latest focus groups — including those who described themselves as "pro-life" — said they oppose Texas' new anti-abortion law.

Why it matters: If their responses reflect larger patterns in U.S. society, this could hurt Republicans with women and independents in next year's midterm elections. The swing voters cited overreach, invasion of privacy and concerns about frivolous lawsuits jamming up the courts.
