At least 12 people are dead after a fire in a Bronx apartment building on Thursday night, per CBS New York. The blaze required the response of 170 firefighters on an evening with subzero windchills and, according to the New York Daily News, was ignited by a small child playing with a stove.
"This is the worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter century." — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio
