Ukraine defense ministry, banks hit with cyber onslaught
Why it matters: It comes as tensions escalate at the Russia-Ukraine border. U.S. intelligence has said it expects a Russian invasion into Ukraine any day now.
Details: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said it was likely targeted by a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS).
- The Armed Forces of Ukraine as well as banks PrivatBank and Oschadbank were also targeted, said the Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security, another Ukrainian agency.
- PrivatBank denied being targeted in a statement to Politico.
- The Ukraine Cyberpolice said it has identified individuals who were sending texts about fraudulent ATM failures.
