The White House will restrict travel from India starting at midnight on Tuesday, May 4, White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced on Friday.
Driving the news: The Biden administration cited a steep rise in coronavirus cases in the country and the possible emergence of multiple variants.
- India is currently facing the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world and reporting records for most confirmed cases in a single day.
What she's saying: "On the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the administration will restrict travel from India starting immediately," Psaki said.
Worth noting: The policy won't apply to American citizens, permanent residents or other people with exemptions, CNN writes.
