Discrimination lawsuit against Harvard will proceed to trial

A federal judge ruled that a lawsuit filed against Harvard University accusing the institution of discriminating against Asian-American applicants can go to trial next month on October 15, reports Reuters.

Why it matters: The suit could influence how race and affirmative action laws impact college application processes and decisions in the future. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that schools may use affirmative action to assist minority applicants, but conservatives have argued those programs can hurt white and Asian-American applicants.
