Fileless cyberattacks, which are hard to detect because they don't add or alter files on target systems, have nearly doubled in the first half of this year, according to SentinelOne’s Enterprise Risk Index Report.

Why it matters: Although a relatively new trend, these fileless attacks are 10 times more likely to infiltrate security systems successfully than attacks with files, per the Ponemon Institute. That's in part because traditional scanning technology is not prepared for fileless attacks since they're meant to detect files — and hackers are taking note.
