Kathie Klages, a former gymnastics coach at Michigan State University, has been charged with lying to authorities during the investigation into sexual abuse of athletes by gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, the Associated Press reports.
Why it matters: Klages denied that former gymnast Larissa Boyce told her about the abuse she suffered from Nassar in 1997, per the AP, but Boyce alleges Klages "dissuaded her from taking the issue further." Nassar abused hundreds of gymnasts at MSU.
She could face up to four years in prison if "convicted of the felony and misdemeanor charges."
- Per the AP, it's unclear "if Klages has a criminal defense lawyer." The charges against her were announced by special independent counsel Bill Forsyth.
The University has already reached a $500 million settlement with more than 300 of Nassar's victims.
