Pence to Central Americans: "If you can't come legally, don't come at all"

Vice President Mike Pence delivered a message on Tuesday "to the people of Central America," while speaking with Brazilian President Michel Temer on the issue of immigration: "If you can't come legally, don't come at all."

Why it matters: This comes on the heels of a heated week of the U.S. immigration debate, specifically the Trump administration "zero-tolerance" policy that has resulted in the separation of families at the southern border.

  • Temer has criticized the administration over the policy, reports the Hill, and said it has led to the separation of multiple Brazilian children at the U.S. border.
  • "This is an extremely sensitive issue in the eyes of the Brazilian society," Temer said at today's press conference.
