A CNN analysis has revealed that Department of Defense employees spent more than $138,000 at Trump-branded properties during the first eight months of Donald Trump's presidency. About a third of the total expenditure was charged at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
Why it matters: Watchdog groups and ethics officials have repeatedly said that the Trump Organization, which is still owned by the president despite being run by his sons, should not accept taxpayer dollars. Per CNN, "some critics say the payments may violate a provision of the Constitution known as the domestic emoluments clause."
