Cruz's ACA repeal push isn't going anywhere

Sen. Ted Cruz told the Washington Examiner that he's pushing for Republicans to try to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act again this year. He told reporters that leadership has said it's interested in doing so — if there's 50 votes for anything. But that's not looking likely.

What they're saying:

  • Sen. Lisa Murkowski, a key no vote last summer: "I don't think that we should be spending time trying to do repeal and replace of Obamacare."
  • "There is no scenario repeal comes back this Congress," a senior GOP aide told me, saying Sen. Susan Collins is a no and Sen. John McCain isn't currently present to vote (he was the third no vote).
  • Another aide joked that Cruz will try to repeal the ACA "with a government shutdown, because he seems to have some amnesia about that."
