Charlottesville police chief steps down after criticism over white nationalist rally

Charlottesville Police Chief Alfred Thomas said today he's retiring effective immediately. The reason for his retirement is not clear, but this comes more than two weeks after a scathing independent review suggested his department responded poorly to a violent white supremacist rally in August.
