Trump urged "shutdown" of Muslims entering U.S. two years ago today

On December 7, 2017, in one of the most stunning moments of the 2016 election cycle, Donald Trump called for all Muslims to be denied entry into the U.S.
The backdrop: Trump's remarks came five days after the San Bernardino attacks, and were condemned by the Obama White House and a number of world leaders. However, a Rasmussen poll found 66% of Republican voters approved of the policy, as did a plurality of voters overall. While in office, Trump has not pursued a blanket ban on Muslims, though the various iterations of his travel ban have been criticized for targeting Muslim-majority countries.
