Social conservative group gives Trump top marks

One of the most influential social conservative groups in the country, the Susan B. Anthony List, has issued a glowing appraisal of President Trump's first 100 days. The group's leader, Marjorie Dannenfelser, will release a report today saying Trump has "has governed as a pro-life president."

Why this matters: social conservatives and evangelical voters comprise a substantial portion of Trump's base and they turned out in record numbers to elect him. He needs their continued support and can't afford for them to become disillusioned by his presidency.

The SBA List report praises Trump for the following actions in his first 100 days:

"Confirmation of pro-life Justice Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court." (Our side note: Gorsuch wouldn't reveal his views on Roe v Wade during his confirmation, and he says Trump never asked him, despite Trump promising to appoint pro-life justices.)"Strong pro-life appointments to key positions including: Vice President Mike Pence, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, HHS Secretary Tom Price, Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway.""Reinstatement of the Mexico City Policy...which stops U.S. taxpayer funding of the abortion industry overseas."Cutting off U.S. taxpayer funds to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) — "which has a long history of involvement in China's brutal birth limitation policy.""Enactment of the Congressional Review Act H.J. Res 43 to allow states the option to prioritize Title X funding away from Planned Parenthood.""Support for legislation in the U.S. House that repeals Obamacare and redirects taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood to community health centers."
