SNL launches its first-ever Snapchat show
SNL has officially launched their first-ever show on Snapchat Discover.
Plot summary: The first episode, "Boycott" features SNL personalities Aidy Bryant and Beck Bennett trying to navigate Trump's America. After leaving an anti-Trump protest, the two characters hop in an Uber to go home, only to realize that Uber's CEO Travis Kalanick was on Trump's business council, causing them to hop out immediately. The couple faces a similar set of conundrums all day.
Why it matters: Snapchat has announced a slew of media partnerships since filing for its IPO last week, to compete with the direct content licensing partnerships of competitors like Facebook and Twitter. Snapchat's content partnerships vary from established news brands, like The New York Times and Time. Inc. to television partners, like BBC Worldwide and A&E.
What's next: Snap is expected to announce additional partners to join their Discover platform to produce full shows or publish special editions of shows. In a statement Thursday, Snap said they are also working with NBC, Turner and ABC to create new scripted and unscripted shows.
