Norwegian public broadcaster NRK is testing out a novel way to civilize its online comment sections: a multiple-choice quiz about the content, Per NiemanLab.
The reasoning: The quiz ensures that commenters have read the story and helps to keep discussions on topic by establishing "a common ground for the debate."
An added benefit: NRKbeta editor Marius Arnesen: "If you spend 15 seconds on it, those are maybe 15 seconds that take the edge off the rant mode when people are commenting."
Why even enable comments in 2017? NRK says it's the duty of a public broadcaster to foster productive conversations amongst citizens.
