Kochs may spend $400 million in 2018

The conservative donor network helmed by billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch plans to spend between $300 million and $400 million on politics and policy in the 2018 cycle.

The figure, announced by network spokesman James Davis at a donor retreat today in Palm Springs, Calif., exceeds the $250 million the Koch network says it spent in the 2016 cycle.

Why this matters: Many in Washington have their eyes on the Kochs after their refusal to spend a penny to support Donald Trump's presidential campaign. Some in Trumpworld — who still feel burned by the Kochs' decision — dismiss the network as a spent and irrelevant political force. A few hundred million dollars is the Koch response.
