House Republicans kick off tax reform hearings

House Republicans will hold their first big hearing next Thursday to kickstart tax reform under unified Republican government.

It's a big picture hearing, focusing on "policies that will generate economic growth, create jobs, and increase paychecks for all Americans," the committee announced.

  • Leading the hearings: House Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Tax Policy Subcommittee Chairman Peter Roskam (R-IL).
  • Quote from Brady: "Our hearing is an important step forward as we work with President Trump and our Senate colleagues on delivering historic pro-growth tax reform for the first time in 30 years."
  • Between the lines: Ways and Means leaders want major tax reform and are allergic to unfunded tax cuts that would be temporary.
