A new survey conducted by Consumer Reports looks at U.S. consumer sentiment about home-sharing services like Airbnb and HomeAway:
- 92% of Americans who have used Airbnb or a competitor say they're very likely or likely to do it again. Most said they used it to save money.
- 65% haven't had a bad experience. Of those who did, the most common complaints were cleanliness, size, or quality.
- Almost 75% of people who have never used a home-sharing service would consider it.
And yet: Only 10% of Americans have booked a stay through a home-sharing service, according to Consumer Reports. A Pew Research report last year pegged that figure at 11%, and found that Americans using home-sharing sites tend to be middle-aged (median age is 42) and have considerable income: 24% of households making $75,000 a year or more have used these services, compared to 4% of those making $30,000 or less
