Americans think U.S. politics less civil under Trump

An NPR/PBS/Marist poll finds that Americans of all political leanings say the level of civility in American politics has decreased since President Trump took office. Compare that to the findings from 2009 after Barack Obama entered the White House:

  • Under Trump: 70% say it's worse, 6% say improved
  • Under Obama: 35% say it's worse, 21% say improved

The poll also asked Americans how much they trust major institutions:

One observation: The trust in Trump's administration is low (37%), but it's a notch above that of his favorite punching bag — the media (30%).
