Atlanta's mayoral race is likely headed for a vote recount, after Keisha Lance Bottoms won the election by just 759 votes.
Why it matters: Bottoms, an African American woman and a Democrat, would continue the state's trend of having an African American mayor since the mid-1970s, per AP. But if the recount ends up giving Mary Norwood the victory, Atlanta would have its first white mayor in more than 40 years and its first Republican mayor since 1879.
